  • Peter Obi has called on President Bola Tinubu to suspend his retreat in France and return home to tackle Nigeria’s worsening insecurity.

  • Obi highlighted that over 150 Nigerians were killed in two weeks across Plateau, Zamfara, and other regions, criticizing the lack of leadership presence amid crises.

  • He stressed that securing lives is the government’s primary duty and urged Tinubu to “take responsibility” and address the situation urgently.

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has urged President Bola Tinubu to suspend his ongoing retreat in France and return to Nigeria to address the worsening insecurity.

In a statement shared via his 𝕏 account on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, Obi expressed concern over the growing number of killings and attacks across the country, noting an “apparent absence of governance.”

“In the two weeks you have been away, over 150 Nigerians have lost their lives to insecurity across Nigeria, especially in the Plateau and Zamfara states,” Obi said, adding that repeated pipeline explosions in the Niger Delta and a resurgence of insurgency in Borno further highlight a country in distress. He condemned the President’s absence, saying, “Amid all these, the CEO of the troubling company called Nigeria is retreating in a faraway land in France.”

Obi emphasized that the primary duty of any government is to protect the lives and property of its citizens. “I urge Mr. President to quickly suspend whatever he is doing in France and rush home to take responsibility by addressing these disturbing issues,” he stated. Describing the crisis as a test of leadership, Obi concluded, “That is the new Nigeria that the nation seeks.”
