Revert to Old Pump Price, Reps Committee Urges FG

Revert to Old Pump Price, Reps Committee Urges FG | Daily Report Nigeria

Alhassan Doguwa, the member representing Tudun Wada/Doguwa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has urged the Federal Government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to take swift action to revert to the old pump price of petrol.

The plea comes as fuel scarcity worsens following the NNPCL’s decision to increase the pump price to N855, with prices soaring to N880 in Abuja and Lagos, and independent marketers selling for between N950 and N970 per litre.

Doguwa, who chairs the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), described the situation as “unacceptable” and called for the government and NNPCL to “suspend this recent increase in pump price” and revert to the old price.

The statement read: “Nigerians are currently going through a lot, and adding to this burden is not in our collective best interest. Let us revert to the old pump price as soon as possible.

Doguwa’s committee has vowed to work with security agencies to address crude oil theft and secure oil pipelines, believing that a return to the old pump price will “calm frayed nerves” and enable Nigerians to go about their daily activities with ease.

In a show of support for the government, Doguwa praised President Tinubu’s efforts, saying: “We may be suffering today, but tomorrow will be better. The government of the day is taking significant steps, which may be painful today, but very soon, we will beat our chest as proud Nigerians because the future is great. Tinubu means well for us, and he is desirous of leaving a legacy that future generations will be proud of.”
