Nollywood has been thrown into mourning following the death of fast-rising actress Omotola Odunsi.
The news of her passing was confirmed on Thursday by actor Akinola Akano, popularly known as Segbowe, who shared an emotional tribute via Instagram. He posted heartfelt messages alongside photos of Omotola and a screenshot of their final chat, in which she had expressed signs of recovery from an undisclosed illness.
“Motola! Strange but I tried checking on you at the wee hours of that morning. You said you were FINE & BACK! This is a rude shock, Omotola! Journey well, sister. God be with your family,” Segbowe wrote.

As of the time of filing this report, the circumstances surrounding her death have not been made public.
Tributes have since poured in from colleagues and friends in the Yoruba movie industry, where Omotola was gradually building a strong reputation.
Actress Ashabi Simple, who had recently worked with her, expressed her grief over the loss and reflected on their last meeting on set.
“I’m shocked. You’re one of the best actors I’m rooting for. I saw you earlier this year when I was shooting Deputy and we promised to feature each other in our next project. But now… you laboured and didn’t wait to reap,” she mourned.
Veteran actor Odunlade Adekola, under whose mentorship Omotola was groomed, also reacted to the news with a brief but emotional message, “Jesus Christ. RIP Omotola.”
Omotola began her journey into acting while studying at Olabisi Onabanjo University. Her professional career took off after she was selected during an audition at Odunlade Adekola Film Production (OAFP) and graduated from the training program in 2023.
She went on to feature in several notable Yoruba films, including Lisabi: The Uprising, Officer Adaeze, Amonata, Ayanmo Ire, and Ifedayo. Her performances quickly earned her recognition in the industry before her life was cut short.
Her untimely passing has left a void among peers and fans alike, who remember her as a talented and promising star.
