The Rivers State Government has refuted allegations made by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that it sponsored protesters to vandalize a billboard at the state office of the party in Port Harcourt on Monday.

In a telephone interview with Channels Television, the Rivers State Commissioner for Information, Joe Johnson, described the allegations as baseless and unfounded.

Johnson stated that the Governor Siminalayi Fubara-led government is fully engaged in managing the state’s affairs and has no time to consider such actions.

He recalled Fubara’s leadership in addressing the protesters on the first day of the demonstration, which helped reduce tension in the state.

The commissioner criticized the Tony Okocha-led APC Caretaker Committee in Rivers State, labeling it as factional and a one-man-show with inordinate ambitions.

Johnson accused Okocha and his supporters of being frustrated due to the failure of their plans to use mercenaries to disrupt the state’s peace.

According to him, destructive tendencies are not inherent in the character of Fubara or the state government.

He suggested that the APC’s allegations are a desperate attempt to discredit the government, likening it to the “last kick of a dying horse.”
