Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have returned a N100,000 cash gift that was transferred to their personal accounts on the orders of Governor Sim Fubara.
The development was confirmed in a statement by Hon. Enemi Aabo George, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Petitions and Complaints.

The statement explained that on December 30, 2025, lawmakers noticed credit alerts of N100,000 each in their accounts. “The sum was unsolicited and unapproved, transferred on the instructions of the Governor of Rivers State, Sir Sim Fubara,” the statement read.

Upon discovering the transfers, members promptly returned the funds to the state government’s account, emphasizing that public expenditures must follow due legislative approval as prescribed by law.
The House further criticized the governor for repeatedly drawing from the state’s Consolidated Revenue Account without legislative approval, contrary to previous Supreme Court rulings and the Constitution’s separation of powers.
The incident occurs amid heightened tensions between Governor Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, highlighting ongoing political rivalries in the state.
