The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 46 year old Abi Baragon for allegedly stabbing his side chic, Orineme Ayanate, multiple times, leaving her with serious injuries.
A disturbing video of the incident, which went viral in June 2025, showed the woman pleading for help as she bled heavily from several wounds. According to the police, the attack stemmed from an argument after Ayanate reportedly turned down Baragon’s marriage proposal.

Police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said in a statement on Thursday, October 17, that officers attached to the Human Rights Department, State Headquarters, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, acted swiftly after receiving the viral video. With the help of intelligence gathering and technical tracking, the suspect was arrested on October 13, 2025.
“It was alleged that the suspect’s motive was triggered by the victim’s rejection of his marriage overtures after discovering that he was already married with four children,” Iringe-Koko said. “During interrogation, the suspect confessed to using bottles and stabbing the victim.”

The police confirmed that Baragon is currently in custody, while the victim is receiving medical treatment at a hospital. The command added that an in-depth investigation has begun to uncover the full details of the case.
The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, commended the operatives for their swift response and thanked members of the public for providing credible information that led to the suspect’s arrest.
