In an interview with ESPN, Rodri shared that winning the Ballon d’Or would be a “dream” for him. At 28, he is considered one of the main contenders for this year’s award, alongside Vinícius Júnior.
Rodri was instrumental in Manchester City’s recent success, helping them secure their fourth consecutive Premier League title. Additionally, he was named the Player of the Tournament at Euro 2024.

Rodri reflected on past Spanish greats like Andrés Iniesta and Xavi, who did not win the Ballon d’Or despite their extraordinary careers.
He acknowledged that while Iniesta and Xavi were exceptional players who defined an era, they competed against the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, who dominated the award.
Nevertheless, he emphasized that winning the Ballon d’Or would be a significant achievement for both himself and Spain.
He believes that having a Spanish player earn this honor would be a proud moment and would enhance the country’s football legacy.
