Ronaldo Sets Another Guinness Book of Record
Cristiano Ronaldo has once again entered his name into the Guinness Book of Records.
The Portuguese captain was presented a Guinness World Record plague for attaining the most international appearances with 200 on Tuesday.
The former Manchester United star became the first men’s footballer to play 200 international matches during Portugal’s European Championship qualifying win over Iceland on Tuesday.
Ronaldo, who made his international debut as a teenager in 2003, achieved the feat at the Reykjavik’s Laugardalsvollur stadium.

The captain then performed more magic by scoring the winning goal against Iceland, his 123rd goal for Portugal as he extended his international goalscorer record.
“I’m so happy. To reach 200 caps is the kind of moment that you never expect. It’s an unbelievable achievement. And of course to score the winning goal makes it even more special”, Ronaldo said after the game.
The win leaves Portugal top of the Euro 2024 qualifying group with 12 points, two ahead of second-placed Slovakia, who also won 1-0 away to Liechtenstein on Tuesday.

Prior to Tuesday’s game, Ronaldo said: “Two hundred games played proves the love I have for my country. For me it is an extremely important milestone. It means a lot. [Two hundred] is a beautiful number that [no men’s player] has. I’m very proud because this is something I never thought I could reach. And I’m continuing to set records.”
The forward already holds five other Guinness Book of Records records prior to Tuesday’s feat.
While Ronaldo holds the record for men’s internationals, former USWNT player and 2015 U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame inductee Kristine Lilly holds the general record with 354 international appearances.
