Veteran rapper Michael Ugochukwu Steven, better known as Ruggedman, has claimed that he was the first young Nigerian artist to own a car. In a recent interview with Echo Room, Ruggedman stated that he purchased his BMW for N900,000 in 2004, before other Afrobeats stars like P-Square and D’banj had their own vehicles.
He explained, “I bought my BMW in 2004 for N900,000. I was the first young Nigerian artist to own a car before P-Square and D’banj.” Ruggedman also noted that at that time, only artists signed to Kennis Music had cars, but these were provided for official use, not personal ownership. He mentioned, “Tuface shared a car with his labelmates back then.”
Additionally, Ruggedman claimed to be the first young artist to print posters and calendars in the industry.
