Nigerian rapper Michael Ugochukwu Stephens, known professionally as Ruggedman, recently explained why he no longer supports the controversial figure VeryDarkMan. In a recent episode of the Echoo Room podcast, Ruggedman shared that his support waned when VeryDarkMan began to invade people’s private lives.
Initially, Ruggedman appreciated VeryDarkMan’s activism, especially his focus on ensuring products had proper NAFDAC registration. However, he became disillusioned when VeryDarkMan started to delve into personal matters, particularly involving women. Ruggedman felt this shift was a distraction and that VeryDarkMan’s methods had become less rational.
Ruggedybaba compared the situation to a professional’s use of force, saying, “If a policeman uses shooting as a last resort but does so first, people would question it. A professional should know how to handle things differently.” He emphasized that while it’s important to address criticism, resorting to personal attacks is not the right approach.

He criticized VeryDarkMan’s current methods, noting that he had moved from highlighting issues like NAFDAC registration to personal feuds, such as those involving actress Iyabo Ojo and her daughter. Ruggedman believes that such personal confrontations detract from the initial, valuable activism.
Ruggedybaba also linked VeryDarkMan’s recent behavior to comments he made about Mohbad’s situation, suggesting that VeryDarkMan’s statements about retired actresses seeking attention only provoked further responses. He concluded that this approach, which intrudes into people’s private lives, is why he no longer supports VeryDarkMan.
