“Growing up in the slum and getting out of it wasn’t really easy,” Kadiri said. “I remember going to the National Theatre because I wanted to act. When I got there, I saw over a thousand people. I looked around and thought, ‘There’s no way I’m getting this role.’ The crowd was overwhelming, and many people looked intimidating.”
Kadiri explained that while she was at the venue, she noticed a small noticeboard with an advertisement about screenwriting, which caught her attention. “Maybe it was God’s plan,” she said. “I just went into the office.”

She described the next moment as one that changed her life forever. “I met the man in charge; he had three students waiting for a fourth person who didn’t show up. I told him, ‘Sir, please, I want to learn how to write.’ He said I had to pay, and I told him I didn’t even have transport fare to go home. He smiled and said, ‘Okay, you can come.’ He allowed me to join the class for free and taught me the basics of screenwriting.”
Kadiri said the encounter became the foundation of her career, shaping her path in Nollywood and helping her become one of the most respected figures in the industry today.
