Samson Siasia, a former Nigerian football star, has refuted claims that he applied for the position of Super Eagles head coach.

In an interview with Complete Sports, he clarified that he couldn’t even be considered for the role due to his FIFA suspension. Siasia’s ban stems from his involvement in a bribery scandal where he was found guilty of accepting bribes to manipulate match outcomes.

Although his five-year suspension is slated to conclude in August 2024, he remains ineligible to engage in any sports-related activities until then.

“I did not apply for the Super Eagles coaching job because I know FIFA has yet to lift the suspension on me.

“I don’t know where those who reported that I applied got their story from.

“It’s common sense, I cannot be suspended and be applying for a job.

“I know I would not even be considered for it,” the silver medal-winning coach with Nigeria’s Olympic team at the Beijing Olympics told Completesports.com.
