Santi Cazorla has extended his contract with Real Oviedo with a one-year deal after having led his boyhood club to promotion into La Liga for the first time in 24 years.

The 40-year-old sealed a move to Real Oviedo in August 2023 and has been leading the midfield with sharp vision and calm composure.

Admitting that their promotion drive had relied heavily on Cazorla’s leadership, the Blues described him as “a symbol of our club, on and off the pitch,”
He wore the Spanish jersey 81 times, being instrumental in their golden era that saw them raise the European Championship titles in both 2008 and 2012.
Meanwhile, Cazorla – who will turn 41 in December helped the Gunners raise two FA Cups during his six memorable years at the Emirates Stadium.
