Sarah Mullally becomes the first female archbishop
Church of England announced the historic decision on Friday
Mullally to lead Anglican Communion worldwide.
Sarah Mullaly has been appointed as archbishop of the Canterburry by the Church of England.
Her nomination as the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury was announced on Friday, October 3, 2025, making her the first female archbishop to be appointed to lead the Church of England in that role.

Sarah Mullally, who is also the first female bishop of London, has thus become the first-ever female archbishop to lead the Anglican Communion worldwide.
Her appointment follows the abrupt resignation her predecessor, Justin Welby, who vacated the position last November.
Her latest responsibility is coming on the heels of her serving as the first female bishop of London, a position she has held since 2018.
Ms Mullally, 63,ais a former cancer nurse and continues to advocate for women’s leadership in the church.
She now bears the responsibility of leading 85 million Anglican faithful across the world.
