German customs officers detained Hollywood actor, Arnold Schwarzenegger on Wednesday.

Schwarzenegger was detained for failing to declare a valuable luxury watch he was wearing.

He was held for several hours and made to pay a hefty fine at Munich Airport.

The timepiece was made especially for Schwarzenegger by the luxury Swiss watchmaker Audemars Piguet.

According to reports, Schwarzenegger was planning to sell the watch in the European Union (EU) and was detained for alleged tax evasion.

Criminal proceedings were initiated against the 76-year-old former Governor of California.

The watch was due to be auctioned at a fundraising dinner for Schwarzenegger’s climate initiative in the Austrian ski resort of Kitzbühel on Thursday.

The incident sparked a debate on social media about the legality of customs regulations and the ethics of tax evasion.

Some people demanded more transparency in customs regulations, while others criticized Schwarzenegger for not following the rules.
