Again, SDP looses members to APC as key members defect APC.
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has been seeing a lot of defections of its members to the All Progressive Congress (APC) party.
Recently, the 2023 Vice-presidential candidate of the party, Yusuf Buhari has defected to APC.
Buhari didn’t just leave SDP to APC, he left with the governorship candidate in Kano State, as well as local government contestants and members of the working committee in the party.
Daily Report gathered that the reason behind their defection was claimed to be connected to the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
However, and insider anonymously told Daily Report Nigeria that the reason party members are leaving SDP is allegedly because of the presence of Nasiru El- Rufai, whose political past has been notorious for dictatorship and subjugation of democracy.

Another source, however told Daily Report Nigeria that there has been an alleged information that Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi and El-Rufai wants to form a coalition against APC in 2027 election, so the APC leadership have shown seeds of division in the group and allegedly offered better deals for members who defect to their party.
However, Daily Report Nigeria is yet to confirm these claims since none of the parties have made any statement asserting or refuting them.
Meanwhile, in the address made by the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, when he was addressing the defectors, Jibrin stated that attempts by some politicians to use SDP as a platform to compete against APC in 2027 would be futile.
Recall that the immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, left APC to join SDP recently.
