Suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has penned a biting satirical apology letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, reigniting debates about gender and power dynamics within Nigeria’s legislative chambers.
In the letter, Natasha sarcastically expresses “the deepest sarcasm and utmost theatrical regret” for maintaining dignity and self-respect in Akpabio’s presence.
“I have reflected extensively on my unforgivable failure to recognize that legislative success in certain quarters is apparently not earned through merit, but through the ancient art of compliance of the very personal kind,” Natasha wrote. She added, “How remiss of me not to understand that my refusal to indulge your ‘requests’ was not merely a personal choice but a constitutional violation of certain men’s entitlement.”

Natasha’s letter is a scathing critique of the power dynamics at play, with her asserting her defiance against systemic misogyny and political intimidation. “Please find it in your magnanimous heart — somewhere buried deep beneath layers of entitlement — to forgive this stubborn woman who mistakenly believed that her seat in the Senate was earned through elections, not erections,” she wrote.
The tense relationship between Natasha and Akpabio first came to light in July 2024 when Akpabio rebuked her during a plenary session, remarking, “We are not in a nightclub.”
