Senate Passes Bill on Nigerian Maritime University, Others | Daily Report Nigeria

The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday passed a bill seeking the establishment of the Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko, in Delta state and two other tertiary institutions.

Other institutions passed for establishment includes the upgrading of the Auchi Polytechnic to City University of Technology, Auchi, and the Federal College of Education, Giwa, Kaduna.

The bills were all passed by the Senate following a thorough clause-by-clause consideration of the report by the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TetFund.

Chairman of the Committee on Tertiary Institutions, Senator Babba Kaita presented the reports on the bills .

Senator James Manager from Delta South Senatorial District sponsored the bill on the Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko, while Senator Francis Alimikhena sponsored that of the University of Technology, Auchi.

The bill for the establishment of the Federal College of Education, Giwa, in Kaduna State was sponsored by Senator Uba Sani.

Senator Kaita in presenting the reports, stated that the Federal Polytechnic Auchi is currently running degree programmes in affiliation with Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra with over 50,000 students enrolled for either full and part-time sessions.
