Senator Natasha Hadiza Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, has warned she will initiate legal proceedings against the Clerk of the National Assembly, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, if her resumption of Senate duties is not facilitated by Monday, 15th September 2025.
Through her lawyer, Michael Jonathan Numa, SAN, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan challenged the Clerk’s refusal to act on her resumption, arguing that her six-month suspension expired on 6th September 2025, and that the Clerk’s reliance on the sub judice rule is misapplied.
The lawyer’s letter asserts that the Senate and its Clerk have previously ignored court orders, including a Federal High Court judgment declaring her suspension unlawful and unconstitutional.
Akpoti-Uduaghan’s legal team emphasised that the Clerk’s role is ministerial and cannot override judicial directives or the constitutional mandate of an elected Senator.

“Your office facilitated and enabled the unlawful enforcement of the suspension by restricting our client’s access to the National Assembly and seizing her emoluments, in clear breach of your oath of office,” the letter reads.
The Senator’s counsel highlighted a recurring pattern of judicial defiance by the Senate.
He warned that failure to comply may trigger actions including committal for contempt, disciplinary measures, and other remedies under the law.
