Controversial singer Seun Kuti has raised questions about the sources of wealth among his colleagues in the music industry.
In a recent Instagram Live session, Kuti expressed skepticism about the financial success of some artists, suggesting that their substantial wealth likely doesn’t come from music earnings.
Seun Kuti noted that after more than 20 years of touring, he is only now building his first house, while he sees artists with fewer than two hit songs living lavishly.

“I’ve been touring for over 20 years, and I’m just starting to build my first house. Where is this music money coming from? I see musicians who have only released a couple of songs driving Lamborghinis and G-wagons. What’s going on?” he said.
Recently, many Nigerian artists have publicly claimed that the music industry is highly lucrative.
Rapper Shallipopi, for instance, mentioned in an interview that he found financial success after releasing a few hits. Similarly, singer Portable has claimed that there is more money in music than in rituals, fraud, or football.
