A reckless overtake turned deadly on Monday when two trucks collided along the busy Ogbomoso-Ilorin Federal Road, leaving seven men with serious injuries.

The crash happened around midday at Arinkinkin in Ogbomoso South Local Government Area. Eyewitnesses pointed fingers at one driver’s dangerous move to pass another vehicle, which forced the trucks into each other’s path. Metal twisted and traffic ground to a halt as bystanders rushed to help. The injured were taken to Ebunoluwa Specialist Hospital in Sabo, Ogbomoso by the Federal Road Safety Corps..

An eyewitness, who simply identified himself as Olajide Babalola, said, “The passengers were eight in number, and were all males. Seven sustained serious injury and only one person was not injured. He came out unhurt.” Hospital sources say some victims are pulling through with treatment, but some went into comas.

This isn’t the first time the Ogbomoso-Ilorin stretch has seen blood. Poor maintenance, pothole-riddled surfaces, and drivers ignoring speed limits make them death traps. Last year alone, the FRSC logged over 200 crashes in Oyo, claiming dozens of lives.

As of Tuesday evening, efforts to reach Oyo State FRSC Sector Commander Rosemary Alo for details fell flat. Her office promised a statement soon, but for now, families are at the hospital, praying for good news.
