Confirming the incident on Saturday, Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security, Dr. Nasiru Mua’zu, said the situation could have been far worse if not for the prompt intervention of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (CWC).
“The Community Watch Corps engaged the bandits and pushed them back,” Mua’zu stated. “Sadly, while the corps was evacuating the injured to the hospital, the bandits ambushed them. Their vehicle came under heavy gunfire and was set on fire, but they still managed to bring the injured to safety.”
The commissioner added that initial reports suggest the ambush was an act of revenge after the bandits lost several members during the first encounter with the corps.
He condemned the killings and commended the courage of the security volunteers. “We extend our deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and pray for the quick recovery of the injured,” he said.
Mua’zu assured residents that the government would continue collaborating with the military, police, and other security agencies to intensify operations against criminal elements in the state.
