The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, officially conferred the Okanlomo title on Seyi Tinubu, a role traditionally regarded as the “beloved child” and a symbol of dedication to Yoruba values and heritage.

Seyi Tinubu attended the ceremony with his wife, Layal, while Senator Abdul’Aziz Yari, former Zamfara State Governor, was simultaneously honoured with the Obaloyin title, which symbolises love, justice, compassion, and harmony between physical and spiritual realms.

Bode Durojaiye, Director of Media and Publicity to the Alaafin, explained that the titles entail responsibilities such as advising the Alaafin, promoting cultural unity, and supporting social and educational initiatives in Yorubaland.

The installation attracted a strong turnout of political and traditional leaders, including former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, Senate Majority Leader Michael Bamidele, and numerous other lawmakers and rulers. Footage from the event showed a fully packed venue, reflecting the significance of the ceremony.

“This honour is not only a recognition of Seyi Tinubu’s commitment to Yoruba culture but also a call to serve the community, promote unity, and preserve our heritage,” said Bode Durojaiye.

The ceremony highlights the fusion of political prominence and traditional recognition in Nigeria, emphasizing the continued importance of cultural institutions in national life.
