Salaudeen Waliu, the student who made headlines for beating up his female lecturer, has narrated the cause of what led to his actions.
The final-year student of the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Ilorin, assaulted Mrs. Rahmat Zakariyau, for allegedly refusing to help him out with his Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme obligations.
According to University Campus Journalist, Salaudeen, also known as Captain Walz said he had gone Mrs Rahmat’s office to beg her to wave the mandatory SIWES assignment he had missed over circumstances beyond him.

Salaudeen narrated prior to Thursday’s incident, he had met the victim on countless occasions to no avail.
He narrated that he missed the SIWES program because he was arrested for two months in Lagos.
“Months before the last Thursday incident, he was arrested and locked up for two months, thereby warranting his inability to attend SIWES duties,” he was quoted.
He had gone to visit a friend at Allen Avenue in Ikeja, Lagos State, for the first time, and felt the urge to urinate while waiting for the friend.

He urinated by a car parked by drainage and was challenged by someone he thought may have washed it.
The person accused him of being a thief and before he could explain himself, a mob had descended on him, to mete out jungle justice, before handing him over to the police, where he was detained for two months.
Captain Walz said he approached Mrs. Zakariyau to explain his ordeal but she turned a deaf ear and asked him to wait for the next set, which will make him stay an extra year in school.
On that fateful Thursday, Mrs. Rahmat ordered him out of her office immediately he entered.
”I got angry, I don’t know what came over me, I started arguing and she told me to leave her office, I told her if I don’t leave, what is she going to do?
“She then threw a mug at me which injured me and I started beating her,” he added.
She didn’t fight back, hence he dragged her out and continued beating her.
”I dragged her out and she ran. I chased and kept beating her before people came. I tried to run but was later caught by the school security.”
The suspect stated from the Unilorin security cell where he was transferred to from the ‘F’ Divisional Police station, Tanke in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.
