In a significant anti-corruption milestone, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has officially handed over 753 duplexes—formerly linked to ex-Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele—to the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
The property, located in the Lokogoma district of Abuja, was formally transferred on Tuesday at the ministry’s Mabushi headquarters.
The final forfeiture of the estate was granted in December 2024 by Justice Jude Onwegbuzie of the FCT High Court.

Reacting on social media, former Senator and activist Shehu Sani applauded EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede, calling the handover “one of the most unprecedented transparent processes that has happened in Nigeria’s anti-corruption history.”
He added, “In the past, it would just have been dubiously auctioned to proxies.” Housing Minister Ahmed Dangiwa echoed similar sentiments, stating, “This marks a significant milestone… recovered assets must directly benefit the Nigerian people.”
