The call has sparked mixed reactions, with some lauding Sani’s emphasis on accountability across all levels of government.
Former Senator Shehu Sani has called on Nigerians to assess the performance of their state governors and National Assembly representatives, rather than focusing solely on President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Sani made the call via his verified X handle, coinciding with the second anniversary of President Tinubu’s administration.
“I have read a lot of positive and negative comments about the two years of President Tinubu. Please, be courageous enough to also write about the governor of your state, the senator and members of the House of Representatives and state House of Assembly members representing you,” Sani said.

While some Nigerians lauded Sani’s emphasis on accountability, others accused him of attempting to deflect criticism from the Federal Government. Dr. Awosan Olusanya, a former media aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, echoed Sani’s sentiments, urging Nigerians to spread the weight of accountability across all elected officials.
Sani’s supporters argue that state governors, senators, and Assembly members wield significant powers and public resources that must be subjected to scrutiny. As Sani noted, “That’s your right” to express opinions about elected representatives.
