A tragic Cross River State murder has thrown Ugep community into shock after a 23-year-old man, identified as Bassey Ubi, allegedly killed his father on Sunday in Yakurr Local Government Area. The incident reportedly happened shortly after the suspect returned from church.


Residents of O-3 Palace area in Usaja, Ikpakapit Ward, Ugep, are still struggling to come to terms with the shocking incident involving Bassey Ubi, a young man accused of killing his own father with a machete.

According to information gathered, the incident occurred on Sunday shortly after the suspect returned from church. The exact reason behind the attack is still unclear, as investigations are ongoing into the Cross River State murder.

The situation nearly turned violent when angry residents attempted to lynch the suspect. However, police officers arrived in time and rescued Bassey Ubi, preventing further loss of life.

Confirming the incident on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, said the suspect is now in police custody.

“The suspect was saved from mob action and has been arrested. Investigation is ongoing to determine the motive behind the crime,” Eitokpah stated.

The police assured the public that a full investigation into the Yakurr Local Government murder case would be carried out and that justice would take its course.
