Several shops at the popular Igbudu Market along the Bazunu axis in Warri South Local Government Area were gutted by fire on Saturday, May 6.
According to Godwin Ose, a resident of Bazunu Street close to the market, the fire started when the public power supply was restored at about 1 AM.
Another anonymous source stated that the fire went out of control as only a few people came out to offer help, citing that most people were already in bed due to the all-night rain.

The Delta State Fire Service arrived at the scene by 2 AM but was unable to extinguish the fire.
However, a call was put through to the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) before the firemen were able to put out the fire eventually.
Reports held that one of the household shop owners who came to the scene fainted on seeing the level of damage to her shop.
Other traders who also visited the scene were seen around counting their losses.
