Sierra Leone’s First Lady, Other Country Women Celebrate As Bill Banning Child Marriage Was Passed

The First Lady of the country of Sierra Leone has expressed her joy after a bill criminalizing child marriage was passed.

The First Lady, Fatima Maada Bio in a video shared online could be seen with some of her country women dancing and rejoicing after their efforts have been crowned.

Sierra Leone is known as one of the highest countries with child marriage, with about one-third of girls married before the age of 18, and another third giving birth before the age of 19, according to the Ministry of Health.

Sierra Leone passed a bill on the 21st of June, 2023, banning child marriage, and any form of sexual relationship with anyone below the age of 18.
