Simon Ekpa, the self-proclaimed leader of the Biafra Republic Government-in-Exile, has come under fire from the Nigerian military leadership for inciting violence in Nigeria’s South-East while living a life of luxury in Finland.

General Christopher Musa, Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), expressed his disbelief at Ekpa’s actions during an exclusive interview with News Central TV on Friday, calling his behavior “unfortunate” and “irresponsible.”

Ekpa, who was arrested over three weeks ago in Finland on charges of terrorism-related offenses, including inciting violence and financing terrorism, allegedly used social media platforms to stir unrest in Nigeria’s South-East.

Finnish authorities have been investigating him for his role in inciting deadly violence against civilians and government officials, with reports suggesting that Ekpa’s online rhetoric has escalated tensions in the region.

According to General Musa, while Ekpa enjoys a life of partying and indulgence in Finland, his actions have far-reaching consequences in Nigeria, including the destabilization of the South-East and the loss of innocent lives.

“There are a few people that really don’t understand what the man’s mindset is,” said Musa.

The CDS expressed relief that Finnish authorities had arrested Ekpa, acknowledging the valuable evidence provided by Nigeria’s military that helped secure the decision.

“They understand that keeping him there is a minus for them,” Musa noted, referring to the Finnish government’s stance on Ekpa’s detention.

He also emphasized the critical role of technology and community cooperation in addressing asymmetric warfare and countering terrorist activities.
