At least six farmers have been killed in a fresh attack by suspected armed bandits in Unguwar Wawa community, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.

The attack reportedly occurred around 10:00 p.m. on Friday when the assailants stormed the area and opened fire on farmers who were on their farmlands.

The incident was disclosed on Saturday by Bakatsine, a conflict and crisis journalist known for reporting insecurity in Nigeria’s northwest and north-central regions.

According to the report, the attackers fled immediately after the shooting, leaving several residents dead and plunging the community into fear and mourning.

The latest killings have heightened concerns over the worsening security situation in parts of Niger State, particularly rural areas where farmers have increasingly become targets of violent attacks.

Residents of Unguwar Wawa have called on security agencies to urgently step up patrols and deploy personnel to protect lives and livelihoods in vulnerable communities.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities and security agencies were yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
