Six journalists have been confirmed dead following a fatal road crash along the Gombe–Yola road, throwing the journalism community into deep mourning. The victims were reportedly travelling for a professional assignment when the tragic accident occurred in Gombe State.

The accident happened on Monday along the Gombe–Yola highway, a route that has recorded several deadly crashes in recent months.

According to reports, the vehicle conveying the journalists lost control while in motion, leading to a violent crash that claimed six lives on the spot. Several other occupants of the vehicle sustained varying degrees of injuries and were immediately taken to nearby hospitals for medical attention.

A source familiar with the incident confirmed that the journalists were en route to cover an official assignment when the tragedy struck.

“This is a very painful loss for the media community. They were simply doing their jobs when the accident happened,” the source said.

Emergency responders and security officials arrived at the scene shortly after the crash to rescue survivors and clear the road for traffic.

As of the time of filing this report, the identities of the deceased journalists have not been officially released, while authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident.

The incident has once again raised concerns over road safety on the Gombe–Yola axis, which has witnessed multiple fatal crashes involving travellers, security personnel, and commuters.
