The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations in Sokoto State, DCP Kabir Abdu, has died after a prolonged illness, the Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed. The senior officer passed away while receiving treatment at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto.
The Sokoto State Police Command announced the death on Sunday in a statement signed by its spokesperson, DSP Ahmed Rufai.

According to the statement, DCP Kabir Abdu had been admitted to the teaching hospital since December 12, 2025, where he was undergoing medical care before his death.

Reacting to the loss, the Commissioner of Police in Sokoto State, CP Ahmed Musa, described the late officer as a disciplined, selfless, and committed professional whose service played a key role in maintaining security across the state.
“DCP Kabir Abdu was an outstanding officer whose dedication and professionalism made a lasting contribution to policing and public safety in Sokoto State,” CP Musa said.
On behalf of officers and men of the Command, the Commissioner extended condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased. He also prayed for Allah (SWT) to grant the late officer eternal rest and comfort to his loved ones.
Before his death, Abdu served as Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, a strategic position responsible for coordinating security operations, crime prevention, and responses to security threats in Sokoto State.

His tenure coincided with intensified efforts by the police to combat banditry, kidnapping, and violent crimes in parts of the North-West. Colleagues described him as firm, disciplined, and deeply committed to inter-agency collaboration and community safety.
The Police Command noted that his death is a significant loss to the Nigeria Police Force, especially at a time when the institution continues to face operational and personnel challenges nationwide.
“His service left an indelible mark on policing and security operations in Sokoto State,” the Police Commissioner stated.
