The Nigerian Army has launched an investigation into the killing of Timothy Daniel, a 13-year-old boy who was allegedly shot by a soldier attached to a petrochemical company in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

According to residents, the tragic incident occurred in the early hours of January 1, when Timothy and his sister, Miracle Daniel, were returning home from a church service around 12:05 a.m.

Eyewitnesses claimed the siblings encountered a soldier who allegedly made sexual remarks toward the teenage girl and went further to touch her inappropriately. Angered by the action, Timothy reportedly confronted and cursed the officer for harassing his sister.

Residents said the confrontation enraged the soldier, who allegedly cocked his rifle and shot Timothy in the head, killing him instantly and leaving him lying in a pool of blood.

Confirming the incident, the Army Public Relations Officer, 2 Brigade, Mbiokporo, said the matter is under military review.

“The incident is being handled by the military police and is currently under investigation,” the spokesperson said.

The killing has sparked widespread condemnation, with community members and Nigerians online calling for justice and accountability asinvestigations continue.
