In a recent press briefing at the Light House in Awka, Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo strongly condemned the Monday sit-at-home practice, accusing certain politicians of deliberately orchestrating the closures to undermine the state’s economic activities. Soludo described the recurring market shutdowns as economic sabotage and asserted that his administration would not tolerate such disruptions.

The governor explained that the closure of Onitsha Main Market last Monday was a direct response to the sit-at-home and warned that if the market fails to reopen on subsequent Mondays, the closure could be extended for an additional two weeks.

Soludo also dismissed threats of legal action from traders, emphasizing the government’s legal authority to ensure public safety and order.
Soludo highlighted that the markets had operated without major security incidents during the festive season, pointing out that business activities thrived during that period.
He stressed that the state government would not hesitate to take further measures, including revoking shop ownership rights if necessary, to safeguard the region’s economic stability.
