American rapper Soulja Boy has expressed interest in buying the social media app TikTok, becoming the first person to publicly indicate an intent to acquire the platform following recent developments in the U.S.
President Joe Biden signed a foreign aid package into law that would effectively ban the Chinese-owned app from the U.S. within nine months unless it’s sold. In response, Soulja Boy took to his X handle to criticize the new law, arguing that if TikTok is banned, other apps or sites could face the same fate in the future.
“I can’t believe y’all just gon let them ban TikTok like that. And y’all think it’s funny. If they do it to this app, they can do it to any app or site. Not cool fr y’all will see later,” he wrote.

In a separate post, the rapper playfully hinted at his intention to buy TikTok, writing, “How much y’all want for TikTok? I’ll buy it. @tiktok_us.”
Meanwhile, TikTok has stated its intention to fight the new law through legal action. Alex Haurek, a spokesperson for TikTok, called the law “unconstitutional” and said the company plans to “challenge it in court.”
