The south-west caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the party to zone its 2023 presidential ticket to the southern region of the country.
The caucus disclosed the decision after a meeting on Tuesday at the government house in Oyo state.
Reading a communique at the end of the meeting, Soji Adagunodo, zonal chairman of the party said the decision was in line with the position of the southern governors’ forum on zoning the presidential ticket to the region.
According to Adagodundo: “We also resolved that the unity of the south-west is a non-negotiable issue. To this end, we demand that all dispute resolution mechanisms should be on the front burner,”

“The zone is desirous of fairness, justice and equity in the distribution of federal positions and appointments.
“We will support all efforts geared towards national cohesion through equitable distribution of federal positions and appointments among the geopolitical zones of the country.”
Those that attended the meeting included — Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti, Olagunsoye Oyinlola of Osun, and Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo, Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo; Taofeek Arapaja, the national vice-chairman of the party; Bode George, a PDP chieftain; and Olusola Eleka, former deputy governor of Ekiti.
