Soyinka’s passport was seized during his detention, but he has now retrieved it after being accompanied by human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong to the DSS office in Ikoyi.

The DSS has suggested that Soyinka’s arrest and detention may have been due to a case of mistaken identity.

Effiong confirmed that the DSS operatives apologized for the incident and returned the journalist’s passport without further issues.

Soyinka was arrested on Sunday and held for about eight hours, during which he was interrogated at both the DSS Airport Command and the agency’s Ikoyi office.

He was released later that day, but his passport was withheld by the DSS.
