Nigerian internet personality and musician, Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, is facing the possibility of legal action after failing to honour an invitation from the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).

The agency summoned him over a controversial video where he claimed to have had sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl.

The summons, issued on Wednesday and signed by Ngamaraju Mangzha, Head of NAPTIP’s Cybercrime Response Team, instructed the entertainer to report to the agency’s headquarters in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, by 9:00 a.m. on Friday. However, by midday, officials confirmed to PUNCH that he had not shown up or communicated any reason for his absence.

“We’re still waiting. If he fails to appear, we’ll act in accordance with the final warning in the notice,” an official said anonymously.

Another staff member noted that since the incident was not confirmed to have happened within Lagos, the Lagos State Government referred the matter to NAPTIP due to its nationwide jurisdiction. “Our Lagos office received reports and redirected them to us. That’s how the case got to our desk,” the source explained.

The agency’s spokesperson, Adekoye Vincent, revealed that Director-General Binta Bello is personally monitoring the situation. He emphasized that the case involves serious concerns around child protection and human rights. “It’s about a minor. Our DG is extremely concerned, especially considering the gravity of what was admitted on video,” he said.

Adekoye also mentioned that Speed Darlington released a follow-up video where he appeared to mock the outrage, suggesting that if he had known the reaction the 15-year-old claim would trigger, he would have opted for a 12-year-old instead. “That shows a disturbing mindset. He wasn’t coerced—it was a clear, voluntary statement,” he added.

When asked about the agency’s next move, Adekoye said the law provides clear options. “We’ll act accordingly. His failure to appear might lead to his arrest or prosecution,” he stated.

The controversy began earlier in the week when Speed Darlington went live on Instagram and claimed to have had sex with a 15-year-old virgin. The comment quickly spread online and drew heavy backlash from the public, including women’s rights activists who described it as a confession to statutory rape.

In response, the Lagos State Government alerted NAPTIP, which issued a swift summons demanding the entertainer’s presence for questioning.
