  • A police inspector, Afolabi Adeola, died after being critically injured in a crash involving two FAW trucks at a checkpoint on the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway on June 29.
  • The accident occurred when a speeding truck loaded with cement rammed into a stationary mini truck, resulting in severe injuries to the officer, who later died on July 1 despite medical efforts.
  • Authorities have launched an investigation and confirmed that those involved will be arraigned in court on July 3.

 

A tragic road accident involving two trucks has claimed the life of a police inspector at a checkpoint along the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway in Ogun State.

The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. on June 29 near the Judiciary Complex checkpoint. Preliminary findings revealed that a FAW truck carrying 900 bags of cement approached the checkpoint at high speed and rammed into a stationary FAW mini truck, which had halted in compliance with checkpoint instructions.

Inspector Afolabi Adeola, who was on duty at the time, sustained critical injuries in the collision. He was immediately rushed to a hospital in Lagos for emergency care. Despite undergoing an X-ray and receiving treatment, he passed away on July 1.

Traffic officers who arrived at the scene carried out a preliminary investigation, including taking photographs, sketching the crash scene, and recovering both vehicles for further examination.

Authorities have confirmed that legal action is underway, with those involved in the incident scheduled to appear in court on July 3.

Kano Court Sentences Man to Death for Brutal Murder of Three-Year-Old Girl

A High Court sitting in Kano has sentenced one Aminu Muhammad to death by hanging for the gruesome killing of a three-year-old girl, Rafi’atu Junaidu, in Jibga village, Bebeji Local Government Area.

The judgment was delivered on Wednesday by Justice Maryam Sabo at Miller Road, who found the accused guilty of murder after a lengthy trial.
