A staff member of the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) in Makurdi has reportedly died after being fatally tortured for “stealing” a mobile phone.
The incident occurred in Gyado Villa, approximately 4 kilometers along the Makurdi-Gboko Road.
It was said that the youths in the area were alerted about the missing phone and subsequently summoned the deceased for questioning.
In the aftermath of his death, on Saturday night, February 17, a youth group loyal to the deceased took action by setting fire to the house of the youth leader’s father, who was allegedly involved in orchestrating the torture.

The situation escalated, causing chaos, and many residents began leaving the community due to fear of the unknown.
Meanwhile, police have initiated investigations to uncover the underlying causes of the crisis.
