Laureus World Sports Awards former winner, Messi faces stiff competition from Haaland, with both football stars vying for the coveted Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award, alongside notable contenders like Novak Djokovic, Mondo Duplantis, Noah Lyles, and Max Verstappen.

In the team category, Haaland’s club Manchester City, following their Treble triumph, contends for the Laureus World Team of the Year accolade. Their competitors include formidable teams such as the European Ryder Cup team, South Africa’s Springboks rugby team, Spain’s women’s football team, Germany’s men’s basketball team, and the Oracle Red Bull Racing team.
