However, in a statement issued by BSU registrar, Dr Mfaga Modom, titled, “Reopening of the University,” the management directed all staff members of the university to resume duty from Wednesday, September 28, 2022.

The statement noted that the resumption date for students would be announced later.

The statement read in part;

“On the directive of the Vice Chancellor, I write to inform all staff, members of the university community and the general public that the university will reopen with effect from Wednesday, September 28, 2022.

“All staff of the university are hereby expected to resume regular duties from Wednesday. The resumption date for all categories of students will be announced in due course.”

Meanwhile, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Benue State chapter, has dissociated itself from the directive.

Speaking to newsmen, the BSU ASUU Chairman, Dr Victor Tarnongo, said the association did not shut down the university, adding that the strike embarked upon by the union continued.

“The school authority can direct the opening of the university because ASUU did not close the university but our position is that the action continues,” Dr Tarnongo said.
