The Nigerian government’s student loan program, administered by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), has announced that individuals with a history of criminal convictions, including certificate forgery, drug offenses, and cultism, will not be eligible for the program.

According to NELFUND’s official social media handle, applications from citizens with such convictions will be rejected.

Also, those who have defaulted on previous loans or have been found guilty of submitting fake documents or exam malpractices will also be ineligible.

Notably, President Bola Tinubu’s past was marred by controversies involving academic forgery, identity theft, and narcotics trafficking.

The above concerns were raised during the 2023 presidential election and led to subsequent legal challenges.
