He was rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment, but he later died from the injuries.
A coalition of concerned teachers issued a statement describing Adegoke as a disciplined professional who died “in the line of duty, doing the job he loved and protecting his students from harmful behaviour.”
The statement read: “This tragic death is an attack on the entire teaching profession. A teacher trying to prevent gambling should not end up dead. We demand justice.”
They called on the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), and security agencies to ensure the attackers are arrested and prosecuted. The group also urged that parents of the students involved be held responsible for the actions of their children.

They blamed the incident on rising moral decay in both schools and homes, warning that teachers can no longer feel safe while carrying out their duties. The educators emphasized the need for stricter disciplinary policies, improved security in schools, and more parental responsibility.
Attempts to reach the spokesperson of the Oyo State Police Command, Adewale Osifeso, for official comments were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report. Community members say the students involved have since gone into hiding.
