Subsidy Removal: FCT to Build Bicycle Lanes

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has announced its intention to develop bicycle lanes within the Abuja metropolis.

Olusade Adesola, the Permanent Secretary of the FCT stated that bicycle tracks were already included in the master plan of Abuja city and that steps would be taken to develop them.

Adesola also emphasized the importance of cycling as an enjoyable and physically beneficial sport that should be promoted.

He urged people to embrace the culture of riding bicycles as a means of transportation, exercise, and sport.

According to the PS, the benefits of cycling include improved heart health and strengthened limbs.

He said:

We need to develop them.

”This move will deepen the campaign to reduce the effect of climate change, emissions will be reduced if cycling is encouraged.

”As a people, we need to imbibe the culture of riding bicycles, both as a sport, exercise, and means of transportation.

”The benefits of cycling are enormous. It can improve heart health and strengthen the limbs.”

The above came after President Bola Tinubu declared while giving his inaugural speech on May 29, 2023, that devoting money to subsidy was no longer sustainable for the federal government due to its dwindling resources.
