Iheanacho, Iwobi win awards as Eagles beat Liberia

Following the Super Eagles 2-0 victory over the Lone Stars of Liberia in a World Cup qualifiers encounter at the Teslim Balogun stadium, Lagos on Friday evening, Kelechi Ihenacho and Alex Iwobi received awards as Man of the Match and Most Valuable Player respectively.

The Leicester City striker scored both goals to put Nigeria in the driving seat of the World Cup qualifying series and a dominant performance against Liberia.

The former Manchester City man scored in the 23rd and 45th minutes of the game as Nigeria topped the group following Cape Verde’s scoreless draw with the Central African Republic on Wednesday.

The Super Eagles dominated the entirety of the game and could have scored more goals in the game following the missed chances from Ihenacho, Iwobi, Joe Aribo and Victor Oshimen.

Iwobi was awarded the Most Valuable Player and also received N1m for his performance, while Ihenacho received N1m as Man of the Match, courtesy of one of the Nigerian Football Federation sponsors.

Nigerians hope to see a similar performance from the Super Eagles when they travel to Cape Verde to play the second match of the Qatar 2022 World Cup Qualifying series on Tuesday.
