Nigeria’s hopes of playing in the 2026 World Cup are in jeopardy after a 2-1 defeat to Benin Republic.

The Super Eagles, eager to recover from their 1-1 draw with South Africa last Friday, initially took the lead with a fantastic finish from Raphael Onyedika in the first half.

However, Finidi George’s Super Eagles found themselves trailing by halftime after goals from Benin’s Jodel Dossou and Steve Mounie.

This result places Benin Republic at the top of Group C with seven points, while Nigeria is stuck in fifth place with three points.
