Super Falconets Sleep on Turkish Airport Floor (Photos)

Nigeria’s Super Falconets have been captured sleeping on chairs and the floors of the airport in Istanbul, Turkey, while returning home.

The team was knocked out of the quarter-finals of the 2022 Under-20 Women’s World Cup by the Netherlands on Sunday.

According to sources close to the team, the players and officials of the team barely had three hours to sleep after their loss to the Netherlands as they were asked to move to the airport to return to Nigeria immediately.

Nigeria’s #Falconets have been traveling from Costa Rica since 6:30 am on Monday.

They’re now in Istanbul on a 24-hour layover and sleeping on the airport chairs and floor, or wherever they can find,” the Super Eagles’ former media officer, Colin Udoh, sharing photos on his social media pages, said.

Meanwhile, officials of the team stated that tickets were booked for Avianca for Tuesday but the official carrier of Colombia rebooked to Turkish Air.

This caused a four-hour delay in Colombia and in addition to a stopover in Panama, the team missed the already scheduled Tuesday flight to Nigeria, for no fault of theirs.

The leader of the Nigerian Football Football delegation, Ruth David pleaded with the airline for hotel accommodation but her pleas fell on deaf ears. And the players were forced to wait 24 hours in the Turkish Airport and slept on the bare floor.
