Surveillance Contract: Douye Diri Settles Rift Between Tompolo, Asari, Ateke

Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has waded in to settle the rift between former militant leaders, Government Ekpemupolo, Asari Dokubo and Ateke Tom.

Daily Report recalls that the trio and other interest groups had been in a cold war over a pipeline surveillance contract awarded to Tompolo by the federal government.

The lingering beef led to the convention of a meeting by Governor Diri over the weekend at the Government House in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

The meeting also had the leadership of the Ijaw National Congress and other ethnic nationalities in attendance.

According to Diri, all groups had resolved to work together towards protecting oil facilities in the Niger Delta.

Tompolo, King Ateke Tom and Chief Dokubo Asari all had representatives at the meeting.

According to a communique that emanated from the meeting, a five-man reconciliatory committee has been constituted to interface with various aggrieved groups and individuals on the pipeline surveillance contract.

The communique also called on the government to fast-track the realisation of the proposal for the establishment of modular refineries to put an end to illegal refineries and pollution of the environment.
